Broadway theaters will dim their lights for 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 in memory of Stephen Sondheim.

Sondheim died Nov. 26 at the age of 91. The legendary composer created Broadway staples such as “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Sunday in the Park with George” and “Follies,” and wrote lyrics for “West Side Story” and “Gypsy.”

He has won the most Tony Awards of any composer in Broadway history, and as Charles Isherwood wrote “reinvented the form by diving into new territory.”

“It is hard to imagine Broadway without him, but we know his legacy will live on for many years to come, including in this season’s revival of ‘Company’ opening December 9,” said Charlotte St. Martin, president of The Broadway League.

Lights will be dimmed for exactly one minute Wednesday.
