June is here, and with it comes Pride Month and the chance to celebrate and show our support for the LGBTQIA+ community! And NYC Pride March, one of the largest annual Pride parades in the world, has revealed its 54th annual event details.
Here’s everything you should know about 2023 NYC Pride:
Who are the 2023 Grand Marshals?
This year, the NYC Pride March will have five grand marshals: Billy Porter, Yasmin Benoit, AC Dumlao, Hope Giselle and Randolfe “Randy” Wicker
“With legislation targeting LGBTQIA+ rights having more than doubled since last, the annual NYC Pride March remains not only relevant but incredibly necessary,” said Bansri Manek, NYC Pride March Director. “Embodying our theme of Strength in Solidarity, each of this year’s grand marshals have used their platforms to bridge gaps within our community to bring about positive change for all marginalized voices.”
What is the meaning of this year’s NYC Pride theme?
As for the theme “Strength in Solidarity,” it encapsulates the LGBTQIA+ community’s resiliency, even after facing an influx of attacks on its members. It highlights the importance of individuality and strength in unity, while noting the LGBTQIA+ community’s cultural significance within modern society.
“Many individuals within our community are recognized for their unyielding creativity and ingenuity, and when we blend the individual threads of our community with those of our allies, together we can see the magnificent tapestry our combined effort produces,” said NYC Pride Executive Director Sandra Pérez.
