Last week, Broadway grosses reached their highest level recorded this season.
Collective grosses for the week ended Nov. 14 reached $25.6 million as the industry added one more show to its weekly total. Attendance across the 31 shows reached 214,681, with the industry operating at 86.2% capacity, another high for the season.
This is a $2.7 million jump from the previous week, ended Nov. 7. 2021, when the industry had recorded grosses of $22.8 million across 30 shows.
Still, the Broadway League has only been releasing grosses for four weeks, with the week ended Oct. 24 as the first on record this year. Grosses are being reported as collective totals for all shows and do not show box office results for individual shows.
Last week’s gross totals included the new additions of “Flying Over Sunset” and “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” which began performances Thursday and Friday respectively. “Chicken & Biscuits,” which had been included in gross totals in the previous week, was excluded from the count as the show was dark due to COVID-19 cases in the company. This resulted in gross totals for 31 shows, as compared to 30 shows in the week ended Nov. 7.
